Refund policy

This template is a poor fit for what you actually sell, and if you publish it as-is it'll create real contradictions with your own store. It's Shopify's generic physical-retail template — written for someone shipping returnable merchandise — and you're selling a print-on-demand book bundled with instant digital goods. Let me walk through the mismatches, because several directly contradict promises on your sales page.

The big structural problem: this whole policy is built around returns (send the item back, get a refund), but your actual guarantee is a keep-it refund. Your sales page and emails say, in your voice: "If it doesn't land, email me and I'll refund you and you keep the book." That's a fundamentally different, more generous policy than "return the item in original packaging with tags." Publishing a return-based policy directly contradicts the refund promise you've made everywhere else — and a sharp reader will notice the store says one thing and the fine print says another. The policy needs to match your actual promise.

The specific things that are wrong or contradictory:

  • "unworn or unused, with tags, and in its original packaging" — that's clothing/retail language. A book isn't "unworn," and your promise literally lets them keep it. Delete this framing entirely.
  • "we'll send you a return shipping label" / "returns sent to [INSERT RETURN ADDRESS]" — you don't want physical returns at all. On print-on-demand, a returned book is worthless to you (you can't resell one-off prints economically), and shipping labels cost you money. Your keep-the-book-refund is actually cheaper and simpler than processing returns. Cut the whole return-shipping apparatus.
  • The "Exceptions / non-returnable items" paragraph (perishable goods, flowers, hazardous materials, flammable liquids, gases) — this is comically irrelevant to a book and screams "generic template I didn't read." Delete it. But the underlying idea matters for you in a different form: your digital goods (the free PDF, the audiobook) are non-refundable/non-returnable once delivered — that's the real exception you need, and this template doesn't cover it.
  • Digital goods aren't addressed at all — your single biggest gap. Once someone downloads the PDF or receives the audiobook, you can't "un-deliver" it, so those need to be explicitly non-refundable (or refundable only at your discretion). Standard and important.
  • "we cannot accept returns on sale items" — your founding-price $18 could be argued to be a "sale" price; this line could confuse. Given your keep-it guarantee, drop it.
  • The EU 14-day cooling-off clause is actually worth keeping (you'll get international/EU orders from OCDM's audience, and it's a real legal right), but it references the same "with tags, original packaging" language that doesn't fit — needs adjusting for a book + digital.
  • The refund mechanics (notify you, refund to original payment method within 10 business days, banks take time) — those are fine, keep them. That part's universal and accurate.

So here's the rewrite — built around your actual keep-it guarantee, covering digital goods, keeping the good mechanical bits, and matching your voice without getting sloppy:

Refund & Return Policy

I want you to feel good about your purchase. If the book doesn't land for you, email me at richie@dontgopro.art within 30 days of receiving it and I'll refund you. In most cases you won't need to send anything back — keep the book.

The physical book If you're not happy with it, contact me within 30 days of delivery at richie@dontgopro.art and I'll issue a refund. Because each copy is printed to order, I generally don't require a return — but if there's an issue, just reach out and we'll make it right.

Damaged or wrong items Please check your order when it arrives. If your book is defective, damaged, or you received the wrong item, email me right away at richie@dontgopro.art and I'll replace it or refund it, no hassle.

Digital items (the PDF and audiobook) Because digital products are delivered instantly and can't be returned once downloaded, the free PDF and the audiobook are generally non-refundable. That said, if something's genuinely wrong — a broken download, a file you can't open — email me and I'll fix it.

European Union 14-day cooling-off period If your order is shipped into the European Union, you have the right to cancel or return your order within 14 days, for any reason, without justification. Note that under EU rules, this right can be waived for digital content once you begin downloading it. For the physical book, contact me at richie@dontgopro.art to start a cancellation.

How refunds work Once I've confirmed your refund, it goes back to your original payment method within 10 business days. Keep in mind your bank or card company may take additional time to post it. If more than 15 business days have passed since your refund was approved and you haven't seen it, contact me at richie@dontgopro.art.
